SINGLE-ENTRY LOOK UPS

(for CE parish registers which have been deposited in the London/Surrey/West Sussex archives I visit)

For events after 1780, I offer a low-priced service to enable you to follow up entries found in e.g. indexes, family papers or BTs.  This means you can check for further details e.g. address, location or occupation, and see the marital status or see the signatures of the people who signed a marriage register, if this information was recorded.  The amount of detail varies from register to register and church to church.  Early registers may sometimes provide no further information than the IGI.

Before requesting this service PLEASE READ THE GUIDELINES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE

Baptism#, exact date, name and details of church supplied,
transcription sent by e-mail or UK s.a.e.

 £8.00

Marriage, exact date, at least one name and details of
church supplied, transcription sent by e-mail or UK s.a.e.
(will include the original signatures of bride, groom and two witnesses - if they were able to write)

£10.00

Burial, exact date, name and details of church supplied,
transcription sent by e-mail or UK s.a.e.

 £8.00

The above charges include a copy or digital photo sent by e-mail or UK s.a.e.  For marriages, this will be a photocopy of the original entry made in the register book at the time of marriage, with signatures of bride and groom if they were able to write.   Also the signatures of witnesses (if able to write).  Very often at least one of the witnesses may be a relative.  The amount of detail varies from church to church and register to register; sometimes an 18th century register will not include the signatures of the couple or their witnesses.  If you have found a reference to a marriage via Bishop's Transcripts, it is possible the entry in the marriage entry will include more detail.

Pre-1780 entries:  charged at hourly rate as earlier registers are more time-consuming to use.

Deposited Nonconformist registers searched at hourly rate (see Charges).

Copies and transcriptions can be posted to UK addresses on receipt of an s.a.e.  This should be no larger than A5 and stamped with 1 x 1st or 2nd class stamp - photocopies will be folded to meet Royal Mail inland letter size restrictions.  Please ensure that you pay sufficient postage on the envelope in which you enclose the s.a.e. otherwise it will not reach me.

Photocopies can be sent overseas by post but incur p&p costs; please contact me for details.

BEFORE REQUESTING A PARISH REGISTER TRANSCRIPTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES CAREFULLY:

- the fee paid is for a look up and transcription, not a search;

- please check carefully that you have accurately copied the details from your source;

- when forwarding the details to me (by whatever means) please check once again that the details you are supplying are correct;

- if your source is the IGI, please check whether the entry has been extracted from a parish register or supplied by an LDS member (you can find this information under the entry beside the batch no.).  Note that any entry sourced from information supplied by an LDS member is likely to be unreliable and may not be based on fact;

- a look-up will be performed to locate and transcribe the entry.  If the relevant entry is not there, it will be reported as "not found".  When this occurs there is no refund of the fee paid, since the register will have been checked to find the entry;

- common reasons for an entry being not found are: entry on IGI supplied by LDS member; index information incorrectly noted; a typing error when details forwarded to me by e-mail; an error in the details posted to me; unnoticed transposition of numerals in dates.
