(A minimum 1-hour search fee applies at all archives listed above.)

I don't charge extra for travelling time or travel expenses to any of the regularly-visited archives listed above; the hourly charges are exactly what you pay for searches at the archives listed.

Other London archives by special arrangement @ £32.00 per hour (minimum 4-hour search fee, with deduction for travelling time from nearest regularly-visited record office), e.g.  Caird Library (National Maritime Museum); Royal College of Surgeons; Barts & London Hospital Archives Department; Wellcome Library; Archives of Royal Botanic Gardens Kew; Westminster Abbey Muniments Room (for certain Westminster coroners' inquest records only).

For these visits the time taken to travel from and return to the nearest regularly-visited London archive will be deducted from the hours allocated.  In addition, an administration fee of 1 hour may be charged for visits to institutions (e.g. university libraries) which require me to supply ID and/or references before I can access records of interest.

Reports are usually sent by e-mail, to avoid charges for postage.  No charge is made for time spent preparing and typing your report.

The only additional charges relate to postage and copies/photos (if required), payable after the search is completed but before despatch:

Postage to UK, 1st class recorded, standard charge for up to 16 x A4 or up to 8 X A3 copies =  £4.00 per envelope; £5.00 per tube;

Postage to overseas destinations, International Signed For or Airsure postage: charges vary according to destination, at cost plus £2.00 handling.  Items addressed PO Box Nos have to be sent using Airsure.

Should any items sent by these methods go astray in the post, they will be replaced and re-sent free of charge.  The charges made cover personal visits to the Post Office; the time taken is not deducted from your search time.

For basic tracking of copies/photos sent by International Signed For post or Airsure, enter the reference number I provide at:

http://www.postoffice.co.uk/track-trace

If you are out when the postman attempts to deliver your package, a card will be left with details of how to arrange re-delivery.  It is your responsibility to arrange re-delivery within 2 weeks of the original delivery attempt.  Please let me know in advance if you are going away for an extended holiday so that your documents are not sent during this time.
