I offer a transcription service for post-1750 documents.
If you're having difficulty reading an original handwritten document, or a copy of a handwritten document, please forward a copy of the document by e-mail or post. My quote for transcription will be provided within 7 days of receipt.
As a guide, I can provide an example of my fee for transcribing a post-1750 Prerogative Court of Canterbury (PCC) will from a copy downloaded by the client from the National Archives website:
Transcription of copy of post-1750 PCC will:
£16.00 per page
Part pages:
If the copy of the will includes 2 half-pages, they will be calculated as one page when calculating the charge.
If there is only one half-page, and the relevant text comprises less than 50% of the page, the charge for that page is £8.00.
Payment accepted by Paypal, sterling cheque or sterling bankers' draft.
A typed transcription of the document is provided by e-mail within 6 weeks of payment being received.
If you require a paper copy of your transcription to be sent by post, an additional charge will apply:
Paper copy of typed transcription sent by post to UK address by 1st Class Signed For post = £4.50
Paper copy of typed transcription sent by post to overseas address by International Tracked post = at cost + £2.00 handling fee.
Paper copies of typed transcriptions are despatched within 6 weeks of payment being received for transcription. Please be aware the document will take time to pass through the postal system on its way to you.
